Melissa reviews a high-resolution photograph (left) created by a scanning electron microscope (SEM)of a microscopic portion of a dwarf mistletoe plant. An SEM uses focused beams of high-energy electrons to create high-resolution photos of subject matter that is otherwise invisible to the naked eye.
